In our latest Accountant Spotlight Series, we're thrilled to introduce Adam Hoke, an Accounting Consultant at 512Financial. His story is one defined by relationship-building, curiosity, and community.

A diverse career with a steady passion

Adam Hoke’s accounting experience began at none other than a drive-in, helping to break down the cost analysis of hamburgers and milkshakes. While his career has certainly evolved since high school, his interest and curiosity for numbers hasn’t wavered. With an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong understanding of the problem-solving aspects of the profession, Adam was drawn early on to help leaders make better business decisions.

Six years into his accounting career, Adam comes from a diverse and deep background that spans multiple industries. Holding various positions for the US Marine Infantry and Operations Enduring Freedom & Iraqi Freedom, Adam brings valuable project and business management experience to his client base. Making the courageous decision to follow his passion at the age of 36, Adam returned to college to complete a Bachelors in Accounting and Finance, leading him to his current accounting tenure at 512Financial.

Having recently completed his first year at the firm, Adam greatly appreciates the cohesiveness that exists across and within teams. “We are a tight-knit unit with unique backgrounds and cultures collaborating as one,” he shares. “I’m still creating new work memories each day.”

Fractional services with full value

512Financial provides fractional services for growth, accelerating success through specialized expertise in finance and accounting. With a special focus on small and medium SaaS companies, the firm has developed a strong reputation within the sector while also expanding beyond to diverse clients, including rocket engineers and custom home builders.

Having worked with a multiplicity of industries, Adam brings an intimate knowledge of the challenges and opportunities unique to his client base. “Sales tax for SaaS companies is different in almost every state in North America and is constantly changing based on legislation,” he explains. “This makes it difficult to effectively apply it to each sale, collect effectively, and remit in a timely manner.”

As small to medium-sized businesses grow, multi-company integration and financial reporting are also essential areas for focus. With a knowledge of how to integrate the correct software and reporting tools to achieve real-time analytics, Adam and the team at 512Financial provide exponential value for long-term success. “While we are a consulting firm offering fractional services, we have the ability to integrate our own lives and experiences so that we are truly a part of the client’s team,” Adam reflects. By prioritizing relationship building on a person-to-person level, 512 Financial demonstrates a deep investment in their clients’ growth and scale.

Expanding business through technology

Through community networking and thought leadership, Adam and the rest of the team are always keeping a pulse on the newest industry trends. Across the company, 512Financial is moving towards integrating AI as a tool in strategic and tactical pursuits, exploring how it can be incorporated for further efficiencies. “I’m excited about AI integration into accounting software,” shares Adam. “I’m looking forward to continuing to learn how it can enhance accountants’ abilities to increase process integrity in their daily work.”

Central to such optimizations is Ramp, helping to expand the business as well as improve existing client relationships. “The ability to seamlessly onboard new clients to Ramp, plus its reliability and integration into accounting software, has greatly impacted our day-to-day work,” he explains. Working with a leading time-saver like Ramp has also increased their capacity to provide accurate and timely financials. With features such as real-time expenses, the ability to assign new users, and the simplicity of accountability settings, Ramp affords ‌ease of use for 512 Financial’s employees.

Increasing client profitability through partnership

Working to solve the Rubik’s cube of SaaS sales tax, one client in particular stands out for Adam. As a medium-sized business with over 40,000 monthly transactions in the United States and Canada, the client’s exclusively remote workforce and product strategy presented several challenges. “Making sales tax inclusive of their product, they were undercutting themselves with each sale, simply because it overwhelmed their resources,” explains Adam.

By integrating SaaS-specific software into the client’s workflow, 512Financial was able to mitigate any additional losses, as well as properly remit taxes to the correct agencies, resulting in a 3-5% increase in profit. “While increasing profit is always positive, knowing that you are in compliance and integrity of your brand and product is just as important,” Adam reflects. Staying true to this philosophy, Adam has greatly impacted all of his clients, supporting them through the ups and downs by getting to know the ins and outs of their businesses.

Making a difference with clients and community

Described by his peers as hardworking, dedicated, and selfless, Adam’s investment in the growth of others, as well as his own, makes him an inspiring leader. Having held various roles in many different industries, his rich experience allows him to bring a unique perspective to the field of accounting.

Outside of his professional life, Adam and his wife love to travel, choosing to live life as an experience to be shared with all those whose paths they cross. When Adam isn’t exploring new areas of the world, he enjoys a multitude of outdoor activities, including hunting, hiking, fishing, golfing, and building. “If I were not an accountant, I would build houses for those in need or reinvent homes for struggling families,” Adam shares.

Adam’s desire to give back and be involved in the community is core to his character. “My wife and I have worked with foster-to-adopt families as childcare providers so that foster parents can have personal time,” he explains. Just as Adam raises his two sons to be strong, independent, and to have a positive impact on the world, he equally extends this philosophy to other children and families. “I love teaching my sons to use more than their minds, hands, and communication to create not only things but relationships,” Adam says. “They have the ability to truly make a difference.”

From an early age, Adam has learned to see potential barriers as opportunities. “Being gifted with dyslexia is not a challenge but a superpower of mine,” he explains. By sharing this perspective with others who may still be finding their path, Adam hopes to inspire people to challenge the way they perceive themselves. “You are what you make yourself,” he asserts.”Our minds help us to see the world differently, and that, too, is beautiful.” At Ramp, we celebrate Adam’s dedication to pursuing his passion and building meaningful connections with clients, community, and family.

Our previous bill pay process probably took a good 10 hours per AP batch. Now it just takes a couple of minutes between getting an invoice entered, approved, and processed.

It's great to be able to park our operating cash in the Ramp Business Account where it earns an actual return and then also pay the bills from that account to maximize float.

The practice managers love Ramp, it allows them to keep some agency for paying practice expenses. They like that they can instantaneously attach receipts at the time of transaction, and that they can text back-and-forth with the automated system. We've gotten a lot of good feedback from users.

The reason I've been such a super fan of Ramp is the product velocity. Not only is it incredibly beneficial to the user, it’s also something that gives me confidence in your ability to continue to pull away from other products.

Switching to Ramp for Bill Pay saved us not only time but also a significant amount of money. Our previous AP automation tool cost us around $40,000 per year, and it wasn’t even working properly. Ramp is far more functional, and we’re getting the benefits at a fraction of the cost.
