AP just became autonomous

Meet Agents for AP

For years, AP software promised automation. Workflows were digitalized. OCR scanned invoices. Rules routed approvals. But the work never truly left. The average invoice still takes upward of two hours to process.1 That’s 20 billion business hours a year paying bills.

Today, we’re introducing Agents for AP — fully autonomous capabilities inside Ramp that understand the context behind every invoice and act. Agents code line items, check for fraud, recommend approvals, and complete card payments.

You stay in control. The clicks go away.

Introducing AP 2.0

Legacy providers turned paper into portals, but the work stayed manual. You still need teams to follow instructions, gather context, and take action in these tools. More logins. More clicks. More “what’s the GL?” It’s slow. It’s painful. It’s error-prone.

With Agents for AP, Ramp gathers all the context and understands your operating procedures to process your invoices end to end. This is only possible because Ramp ingests all the necessary information for agents to make decisions, such as the vendor contract, email history, prior payments, and purchase orders. What once demanded clicks and detective work now happens in the background, reliably and autonomously.

The impact is real. Over the past few months, Agents for AP have:

  • Automated most invoice coding tasks, applying learned logic to get 85% of accounting fields right the first time and continuously improve with every cycle.2
  • Identified $1M+ in fraud before invoices were sent off for approval.3
  • Helped customers receive $2M collectively in cashback rewards.4
  • Issued 90,000 approval recommendations with a 90% acceptance rate.5

Combined with our existing Bill Pay automations, it now takes 7× fewer clicks to process an invoice in Ramp than in BILL.6

How it works

Here’s how the hardest parts of AP just got easier:

Zero-touch coding

Agents apply GL codes line by line by learning from your payment and accounting history. If your team relies on a product ID or a “Ship to” field to code correctly, you can teach the agent to do the same. Then it does it. Consistently.

Fraud checks before approvals

Our agents are trained on hundreds of thousands of invoices and use 60-plus fraud signals to flag suspicious bills before they’re routed.Invoice fraud hurts. The mid-market average is $280,000.7

“Ramp has completely modernized how we manage accounts payable. With end-to-end automation — from invoice processing and approvals to payments and real-time ERP sync — we now close our books two days earlier and save hours of manual work every week.” —Muhammad Younes, Controller, Olipop

Approvals with context built in

Approvals stall when context is missing. Agents summarize vendor history, contract terms, coding, and prior bills, then recommend approval or further review. Decision-makers stop wasting time. They skim. They recommend. They decide and move on.

Cashback without the copy-paste

Eligible bills that accept card? Agents surface them and input card details directly in the vendor’s payment portal. No more keying in card numbers. More cashback, less effort. Payment is automatically processed for any bills from QuickBooks Online.

Stop clicking, start scaling

Bill Pay is Ramp’s fastest growing product ever. Customers now process invoices 2.4× faster than on legacy systems.8 Retention sits at 90%. Customer count has doubled year over year. Payment volume has tripled. And we’re only getting started.

“Ramp’s product has rapidly evolved to catch up to legacy AP solutions; and eventually pass it.” —Manoj Bhutani, Chief Customer Officer, Furey

But this isn’t just growth, it’s proof. Finance teams want more than digitalized workflows. They want software that thinks, acts, and runs on their behalf. That’s what Agents for AP deliver.

The last generation of AP digitalized. The next must contextualize. And with Ramp, the shift is already here.

Ramp customers can enable or join the waitlist for AP Agents in the Early Access tab. Auto-coding and approval recommendations are only available to Ramp Plus customers.
